Puff pastry parcels with minced meat and dried figs

I didn't know what to cook for dinner tonight. I didn't feel like doing grocery shopping. I decided to make do with what I had left in the house. I saw a few sheets of frozen puff pastry, and minced meat. An idea began to form in my head. This is the result.

Preheat the oven to 220°C / 425°F

In a bowl mix the following ingredients with your hands: 250 g (9 ounces) minced meat, 1 onion (finely chopped), 2 tbsp pine nuts, 6 dried figs (chopped in little pieces), 1½ tsp ras el hanout, salt and pepper to taste. If you wish you can sprinkle some chili flakes or pul biber on top.

Lay out two sheets of puff pastry in front of you. Spread the minced meat mixture out on the dough, leave 1 cm / ½ inch free at the edges. Wet the edges with a little water. Roll out two more sheets puff pastry a little thinner and therefore larger. Lay on top of the meat. Press the edges with a fork to fix them together. Make a few holes with a fork. Brush with a beaten egg, or olive oil.

Transfer to the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Check the colour of the dough, and see if it needs a little longer.

Serve with a green salad.
